Taylor Swift Began Writing Music At Age 12.

Being named one of Pop Music’s finest artists, Taylor Swift attributes her success to the personal messages of her lyrics.

Every song that Taylor Swift writes and sings makes a reference to her own personal life. Taylor has even stated that reading her lyrics is almost like reading her personal diary.

Always an active writer, she started to get recognition as early as 4th grade when she won a national poetry contest with her three page poem titled Monster in My Closet. Shortly thereafter, she wrote her first song, Lucky You. That same year, she spent her summer writing a 350 page novel that has not been released. Writing was a release for her, as she states that she was the victim of bullying at school, and writing songs was her way of expressing her feelings.

At the age of 11, her parents took her to Nashville, TN where she delivered a demo to every recording label in town. Each one was rejected, but that didn’t stop Taylor. Upon her return to her home town, she was asked to perform the national anthem at the U.S. Open where she received favorable recognition. Taylor states the reason for the rejections was because of her young age and understands the reasoning behind the producers concerns of her lack of maturity.

From there, it’s been non-stop with opening acts for such big names as Rascal Flats, Tim McGraw and George Straight to her own headline shows and over 20 million albums sold, and has also become the youngest artist to ever win the Country Music Association Award Entertainer of the Year in 2009. She has received numerous other awards in her short career, most recently being honored with her benefit concert and contribution for the Do Something Awards in July, 2011.

Taylor Swift continues to write a lot of her own songs, drawing from her life experiences. She continues to amaze those who follow her even as she’s becoming a young woman.
